Dr. Tin Lai
Chief Technology Officer
Australia

Dr. Tin Lai leads the development of Fait's autonomous technologies. Tin is a distinguished Computer Scientist specialising in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, and Robotics. Holding a Doctorate from The University of Sydney, his Ph.D. thesis delved into Robot Learning and Planning from a Probabilistic Perspective. His research encompasses statistical machine learning, multiagent systems, motion planning, and the integration of probabilistic predictions in robotics.

In addition to his deep expertise in AI, Tin has a combined bachelor’s degree in computer science and Structural Engineering (Honours Class I) from the same esteemed institution. His academic prowess spans areas from Algorithms, Data Structures, and Computational Complexity in Computer Science to Finite Element Analysis and Steel Structural Behaviour in Structural Engineering. He had worked with multiple research groups on projects related to Machine Learning and Robotics in the past.

In 2019, he was invited to a research group in the National Institute of Informatics, Tokyo, Japan, to implement a machine vision solution with Deep Learning with embedded systems on UAVs. In 2020, he started collaborating with a robotic lab at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, on introducing robot learning to manipulators motion planning. In 2021, he was a successful applicant of the Defence Innovation Network Scholarship, an initiative by the Department of Defence, to conduct a feasibility study on autonomous maritime submarines for underwater objects and landscape recognition with synthetic Sonar data.

He actively participates within the academic community, where his scientific works had been published in multiple top conference and journal within the field of AI and robotics.
